Abstract

694,939. Harvesting jute &c. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Feb. 26, 1952, No. 5028/52. Class 6(iii) [Also in Group IX] A machine for use in the extraction of fibre from jute and other fibrous plant stems (see Group IX) includes means for cutting the crop, the stems being cut between two side plates A by a reciprocat-' ing knife 1 as they are stroked backwards by a reel 2 and being topped by a knife 4 as they fall on to a conveyer 3. The tops are discharged on to the ground by a transverse conveyer 5 while the stems are carried by conveyer 3 to a beating drum 8 whence fibre-containing bark ribbons are collected on a bar 12.
