Abstract

280,873. I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.- Ges, Nov. 19, 1926, [Convention date]. Mono-and di-N-oxyethyl derivatives of 4-amino- 1-oxybenzene, which may be used as photographic developers are prepared by acting upon the parent body with glycol halogenhydrin. A diluent and/or an acid-binding agent may be present. In one example 1 mol. 4-amino-1-oxybenzene and 1 mol. ethylene chlorhydrin are heated in the presence of caustic potash and alcohol, and in a second, the same reaction but with two molecules of ethylene chlorhydrin is effected in the prepuce of sodium carbonate.
