Abstract
280,321. Briey, Count J. de. Sept. 13, 1926. Liquids, treating; electric endosmose; electrolytes, circulating.-Molasses and sugar juices are purified by electrolysis so as to eliminate the acids in a first phase and the salts in a second phase. The apparatus comprises one or more series of vessels a divided into compartments 1, 2, 3 by membranous diaphragms b, c of vegetable parchment or other material having a cellulose base. The liquid to be treated enters by a pipe e and passes through the central compartments and through a pipe e<1> to the filters. Purified water is supplied by a pipe d to the lateral compartments and leaves by a pipe d<1>, charged with the acids, and by a pipe d<11>, charged with the alkalies. The liquid to be treated is brought into contact with the cathode in the first phase, to eliminate the acids, and in the second phase is in contact with the anode, to eliminate the salts. The process may be completed by the simultanous elimination of the remaining acids and salts, the liquid being continuously led between compartments of water constituting cathode and anode, the liquid and water being separated by diaphragms. Air, steam, or other gas may be blown in to prevent emulsioning.
