Abstract
169,113. Cutler, H. C. Nov. 8, 1920. Purifying saccharine liquids.-Molasses are purified for use as food by the addition of an inverting-agent, e.g. from “ to 10 per cent of hydrochloric acid, whereby from 5 to 60 per cent of the sugar is inverted. The liquid is dialized to remove inorganic salts, and is then boiled in open vessels to remove volatile impurities and to coagulate albuminoids, the water content being maintained at about 80 per cent during boiling. After removal of the albuminoids by filtration the liquid is evaporated under reduced pressure until the water content is less than 25 per cent.
