[Also in Group I] An apparatus for the methodical washing of thickened foams in sugar manufacture comprises two groups of disc-filters 8. Foams from a thickener are introduced into the first group at 16 and are filtered and washed. After discharge the coke is re-diluted in the agitator 10 and conducted to the second group through the line 17 where the foams are filtered, washed, dried and finally discharged. Water supplied through nozzles 14 to the second group, after washing, produce a light juice which serves to re-dilute the coke in the agitator 10. The rediluted foams with the light juice give, after filtration in the second group, a slightly heavier juice which serves for washing in the first group. The juices produced by the first washing are sent to the manufacturing station together with juices coming from the first filtration. An excess of wash water may be supplied to the second group to produce an excess of light juices which may be required for the manufacture of milk of lime.
