Abstract
<PICT:1107096/C6-C7/1> A system for purifying raw sugar juice comprises a first clarifier 101 to treat the melt and a second clarifier 102 to treat the scums, having two flotation cells 103, 104 and a subsidation cell 105. In operation, washed sugar at A and water at C are introduced to a melter 90 whose output is screened at 91 aerated at 92 and applied to the clarifier 101. Raw liquor T1 is decolourized and the scums S1 are collected in a receiver 106, diluted aerated and clarified at 102. Secondary tailings T2 are returned to the melter. Scums of the secondary flotation are collected in a receiver 108, diluted, aerated and fed under pressure to the cell 104 for tertiary flotation, and the tertiary tailings T3 are returned to the receiver 106 for dilution of the scums S1. The scums S3 are collected at 109, de-aerated diluted and fed to the cell 105 where mud solids settle and are extracted at B. Supernatent liquid T4 is returned to the receiver 108 for dilution of the scums S2.
