Abstract

279,128. Bomke, H., (Assignee of Bergwerksverband zur Verwertung von Schutzrechten der Kohlentechnik Ges.). Oct. 16, 1926, [Convention date]. Catalytic processes and apparatus.-Magnesium oxide is used as a catalyst in the preparation of hydrogen by the interaction of carbon monoxide and steam. Other substances such as other catalysts or absorbents for carbon dioxide may be used in conjunction with the magnesia, either as separate lumps or powdered, mixed with the magnesia, and pressed with or without a binder. A suitable mixture of catalyst and absorbent is obtained by calcining dolomitic limestone. The catalyst may be heated directly or indirectly, the figure illustrates the former method in which the catalyst a is heated by the combustion of gases admitted at c and d, the combustion products being withdrawn at f, while the interacting gases are admitted at b and the hydrogen withdrawn at e. Specification 269,547 is referred to.
