Abstract

278,977. Menz, E. April 29, 1927. Liquid supply controlled by variations in gas pressure; generators supplied with liquid successively.-Relates to automatic acetylene generators in which the supply of water is controlled by the gas holder, which on rising closes the outlet from the generating chamber so as to produce therein a sudden increase of pressure. According to the invention, the byepass which comes into operation when the outlet pipe from the generating chamber is closed consists of a hood 15 within the gas holder 3 and concentric with the outlet pipe 11. In the construction shown in Fig. 1, the valve 13, which closes the pipe 11, is carried by a sleeve 14 resting on a lever 18; the latter is actuated by a ring 17 carried by the gas holder. Alternatively, the valve 13, Fig. 2, may be normallv held on its seat by a spring 22, being opened directly bv the gas holder, as it falls, engaging the projecting end of the valve stem. In this construction the valves 13 may be actuated through levers &c. and the valve boxes may be provided with hoods dipping into the water. By providing a plurality of generating chambers each with a separate outlet pipe, valve and byepass, and by making the projecting valve stems of different heights, the several generating chambers may be automatically brought into operation in succession.
