Cleaners for tobacco pipes and cigar and cigarette holders.-A boiler a, heated by a burner b, is supported by a vertical sliding rod a<1> resting on a balance lever c which is mounted on three knifeedges or pivots e', e<2>, e<3>, and is provided with a counterweight d and a rolling weight f, which are thrown into action when the boiler is pressed down, or the water in the boiler falls below a certain level. A tappet k<1> on a block on the rod a<1> acts on levers l, m to open and close a conical vave l<2> in the gas-supply nozzle b<2>. A conical plug o<1>, adapted to fit in the pipe bowl or holder, is pressed down against the force of a spring o<2> to allow steam to pass through radial holes o<4> to a central bore through the plunger o. Water is forced by a hand-pump h from a tank i through a flexible tube j past a ball valve k<3> and through a pipe p into the boiler. Excess steam passes through a safety-valve n<2> and pipe n<3> to the feedtank i. The ball f, in running along the lever c, operates a bell hammer g or the like to give an alarm. The pilot gas supply is regulated by the lever m, which is pressed against an adjustable nut m<3> by a spring m<1> and supports the bell-crank lever l, both levers being acted on by the tappet k<1>. The downward movement of the boiler, when the pipe is pressed on the nozzle, o<1>, opens the valve l<2> to admit more gas to the burner, and the upward movement of the boiler, when the waterlevel is lowered, tends to close the valve. The apparatus is mounted in a slotted casing, and a receptacle may be provided to catch the discharge from the tobacco pipe.
