Cutting sdices in succession.-The disc knife of a slicing-machine is heated by means mounted on the knife-supporting bracket. As shown in Fig. 2, the knife D is heated by a resistance element 13 carried by a frame 11 of insulating material and connected to contacts 14 (one only being shown). The frame 11 is secured to a shutter 12 which closes an opening in the plate 10 of the knife-supporting bracket. The shutter 12 is detachably secured in the opening by clips 15, 15<1>, the latter being resilient. The shutter is manipulated by a knob 17. When the heater is in position, the contacts 14 engage springs 16 in circuit with a switch which may be arranged to vary the resistance of the element 13. The opening may be closed by a simple shutter when the heater is removed. In a modification, the heater does not pass through an opening in the knife bracket, but is mounted on the bracket which is thereby heated, the knife being heated indirectly.
