Cutting slices in succession. - In a. machine for slicing meat and other substances, the rotary knife is artificially heated, when desired, to prevent grease from hardening and adhering tn the knife. As shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the invention is applied to a disc knife, reciprocating table machine and an electric resistance element 6 is accommodated in an arcuate casing 5 which is of channel form and is supported by the brackets 2, 2<1> of the usual knife guard 1. The casing may be integral with, or directly connected to the knife guard. The open side of the casing 5 is arranged adjacent to the side of the disc knife which is thereby heated. The current is supplied through a plug 8 and conductors 9, 10, and a switch is arranged in connection with contacts 7, 7<1> so that the whole of the element 6 or only a, part thereof may he switched into circuit. The heater 6 may be so supported to permit of adjustment towards, or away from, the knife. The heater may be embedded in the knife and the current supplied by slip rings. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) states that the heater may be mounted on the knife bracket so as to be readily removable therefrom, and may he arranged to heat the knife directly, the bracket transmitting the heat to the knife. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
