Abstract

277,784. Russon, A. Aug. 9, 1926. Steering - mechanism for motor and other cycles is provided with safeguarding means whereby safe steering is secured in the event of the handle-bar becoming loose relatively to the front fork. In the form shown. applicable to a motor-cycle, an attachment A is formed in two parts adapted to be clamped around the stem B of the handle-bar, and is provided with a downwardly-projecting rear part A6 carrying adjustable screws &c. D adapted to come into contact with the rear part C of the fork to ensure its turning with the handle-bar. The attachment A may be alternatively or additionally clamped to the horizontal part of the handle-bar. The downwardly-projecting part A6, instead of carrying abutment screws, may be formed with a hooked-shaped lower end adapted to engage a transverse member of the fork. In a further modification, the rear part of the attachment A is provided with a vertical sleeve for the reception of a bolt, which carries at its lower end lateral projections in which the screw abutments D are mounted. In a construction applicable to pedal cycles, the horizontal part of the handle-bar is directly connected by two parallel rods to the side members of the fork, the rods passing through intermediate guides.
