Abstract

275,716. Superheater Co., Ltd., and Portham, R. S. May 10, 1926. Sinuous tube superheaters. - Relates to steam superheaters for boilers having two or more banks of horizontally inclined tubes connected to up and down headers at their ends. According to the invention a pair of superheater elements is arranged between each pair of vertical nipples 5 connecting the headers 3, 4 to the tube banks, each element 6 comprising a number of U-loop portions in the same vertical plane, and the elements lying in parallel vertical planes in the space between the lower and main tube banks 1, 2 The inlet and outlet portions 11 of the elements are bent laterally where they pass through the corresponding space between adjacent nipples 5 and upwardly and downwardly for connection to the headers. The connection of each pair of ends is made by a single screw device, as described in Specification 167,134. The pipes of adjacent superheater elements may be arranged in staggered relation to each other, as shown in Fig. 4. The loops are supported and spaced or positioned by suspended hangers 9.
