Low-pressure metallic-vapour apparatus. - Jointing members for mercury-vapour apparatus comprise a metal foundation such as copper or aluminium coated with a layer of nickel, cobalt or chromium. such members being heated to such a temperature that the coating layer becomes alloyed with the foundation metal. The heating may be carried out in a vacuum or in a reducing atmosphere or the coated metal may be heated electrically. In an example, nickel-plated copper is heated to a temperature of 700‹ C. Specification 23775/12, [Class 39 (ii), Electric lamps. Incandescent], is referred to.
