Abstract

273,504. Hodgson, H. March 17, 1927. Springs, arrangement of.-A spring suspension for motor vehicles consists of an ordinary quarter-elliptic spring 1 acting as the normal suspenson spring and being straight or substantially straight under load, and an additional spring 3 having a cantilever action through the medium of a centrally disposed pressure regulating device. The spring 3 is pivoted at 5 to the frame 6. The pressure regulating device may comprise a screw 7 adapted to bear against a plate 9 on the spring, or a cam mounted on the frame rotated from any convenient point on the vehicle and having a series of flats for engagement with the spring or a plate thereon. The springs may be connected to a fixed anchorage 2 on the axle in the manner shown, or they may be connected to a loose bushed anchorage, or the end of the spring 3 may slide in guides on the axle.
