Abstract

182,783. Depoit, A. A. A. July 6, 1921, [Convention date]. Arrangements of springs with mountings complete in themselves.-In spring suspension apparatus for motor and other vehicles, oppositely disposed springs are adapted to bear on a cam shaped member displaceable against the action of a suspension spring, the oppositely disposed springs being arranged to resist the return of the parts to the normal position. As shown, the suspension comprises a two-armed lever A pivoted at B to the chassis and carrying the axle at the end of its longer arm, while its shorter arm is acted upon at a variable distance from the pivot B by a spring D. The spring D, which is enclosed in a casing J pivoted at E to the chassis, acts through a rod F which carries a roller C bearing on the shorter arm of the axle-carrying lever A. The rod F also carries a cam G which works between spring-pressed rollers H, I and is so formed that normal movements of the wheel axle away from its position of equilibrium are accelerated, while the return movements are retarded. The ends of the cam are formed so that abnormal movements of the axle are resisted. The oppositely disposed springs and cam device may be arranged to act directly between the axle and chassis as shown in Fig. 2. The Specification, as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a), describes also the use of laminated springs for controlling the rollers H, I. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
