Gas analysis.-An apparatus for indicating the presence of foreign gases in air consists of a porous earthenware &c. body a, through which diffusion takes place into a tube b leading to a chamber h closed by a metal diaphragm c coated with gold. An electric lamp f, carried in a perforated part of the casing, is in electrical connection with the diaphragm and with an insulated contact on a spring plate e, forming part of the diaphragm chamber, which can be adjusted by a screw d to energize the lamp when engaged by the diaphragm. Movement of the screw serves to operate a pointer showing the percentage or volumetric composition of the gas. The lamp battery g is carried in the handle which may be bent to form a pistol grip.
