Candles: solidified spirits.-Substances which are transformed into antiseptic or parasiticidal vapours when brought into contact with a flame are incorporated into a combustible body such as solidified alcohol and moulded into blocks, or are incorporated into fatty acid, stearin, paraffin, wax or the like and formed into candles with one or more wicks, or the antiseptic &c. may be filled into the longitudinal cavities of ordinary hollow candles. According to an example the active substance used is trioxymethylene which yields formaldehyde in contact with a flame. Camphor, " thymic acid," chlorine-containing compounds, arsenious acid, paratoluene-sodium sulphochloramide. naphthols. various spirits, or sulphuretted compounds may also be added. The substances yielding antiseptic or like vapours may also be salts, ethers, or empyreumatic or pyroligneous oils.
