Abstract
272,449. Boerner, A. June 12, 1926, [Convention date]. Resistance to propulsion, reducing.-Arrangements to minimize the resistance to propulsion of bodies moving through fluids such as air and water craft comprise the provision of frontal ducts b for the intake of fluid in which the craft is immersed or floats. The inlet ducts are in communication with rearwardly-directed nozzles e, the fluid being accelerated during its passage from the inlet apertures to the discharge nozzles by pumps or turbines &c. The skin of the body is furnished with scale-like protuberances f, Fig. 3, in the vicinity of the discharge nozzle. Steering may be effected by varying the velocity of outflow on the port and starboard sides or by throttling.
