Abstract

272,003. Lewis, R. A. April 20, 1926. Gas and spray burners; burners, materials for. -In a burner of the kind in which fuel is admitted under pressure in a substantially tangential direction into a drum-shaped chamber having an axial outlet, the chamber is formed in two parts one of which is a liner 1, Figs. 2 and 4, having a tangential inlet over substantially the whole axial length thereof and the other a holder constituting with the liner a drum-shaped chamber. The liner may comprise a. base portion 1 having on its upper face a spiral rib 2. The outer end of the rib 2 and a radial shoulder on the base 1 respectively engage projections 3<a>, 4<a>, Fig. 3, in the holder 5, which screws into a threaded boss 10 on a supply pipe. A number of burners may be mounted on a common head or supply pipe. Figs. 5 and 6 show a modification in which the liner is formed with. a circular base 11 having a centrally apertured boss 12 and a spiral rib 13. The liner is forced into a holder 14 which is screwed on the supply pipe. The holder may be made of a relatively cheap material e.g. cast iron and the liner of electrochemically neutral materials such as aluminium silicon alloy, or other materials such as stainless steel, glass, porcelain, or that known under the registered Trade Mark "Bakelite" may be employed. The liners or holders may be provided with ribs to assist in guiding the fuel and may be perforated to admit a current of air or gas.
