Abstract
123,107. Schroeder, F. W. Feb. 14, 1918. Incandescent gas burners; mantle supports.- The internal air supply to an inverted burner is admitted to the burner tube in stages, and the refractory burner head is of substantially massive form, e.g. its thickness for a substantial part of its length is not less than half the diameter of the bore. A flange on the burner head is formed in one with downwardly extending mantle-supporting lugs. In one form, the air inlets b<2> in the mixing-chamber are surrounded by a shield e, and part of the air passes through inlets a<1> in a tube a<2> surrounding the nipple exit and part mixes with the gaseous mixture issuing from the tube a<2>. Air is also admitted to the mixing-tube through passages formed between the wall b<3> of the reduced upper part of the mixing-chamber and the inlet end of the bent mixing-tube d, preferably by indenting or corrugating the wall b<3>. The burner head has a lower conical end, and its upper cylindrical end is provided with a flange j<1> formed in one with downwardly depending L-shaped lugs j<2>, with which external lugs on the mantle ring engage after the manner of a bayonet-fastening.
