Abstract

Davits.-In davits which are luffed by screw gear, the davit arm of girder section is provided with a portion of different section in order to accommodate the screw 3. When the arms are of I-section 4, Fig. 2, the portion to accommodate the screw is slotted at 5, Fig. 4, whilst the flanges 6 are thicker to counteract any loss of strength. In a modification the davit is of box-section. the front or back plate or both being removed to provide the groove in which the screw spindle can lie and lining and strengthering plates are provided on the remaining walls.
