Abstract

270,849. Angus, A. L. March 5, 1926. Rollers, land and road.-A power-driven land or road roller comprises a main roller 1 mounted below and parallel to an elongated platform 4 and a front steering roller 13 mounted on a bar 15 pivotally carried by a member 14 extending at right angles from the platform 4. Mounted on the platform 4 directly above the roller 1 are a petrol engine 5, driver's seat 17, gear-box 7, and transmission shaft 8. The main roller 1 is driven by chain 11 and sprocket wheels from the shaft 8. Steering is effected from the driver's seat by a hand-wheel 18 and chain 21. In a modification, the petrol engine is replaced by an electric motor and battery of accumulators, additional brakes are provided, and the front roller is replaced by a pair of steering wheels.
