Abstract

270,361. Phillips, C. S. Nov. 11, 1925. Rotary cylindrical valves; handles.-In a tap for use more particularly with oil drums and of the type comprising two telescopic ported tubular members a, b, Fig. 7, these members are arranged so that when they are extended from the collapsed position and then relatively rotated the ports c, g come into register for discharge, as shown. The inner tube is closed at the inner end and has a discharge opening f at the outer end. A pin i in the inner tube is guided in a slot j in the outer tube to control the relative movements, the slot being longitudinal with a right-angled portion at the outer end, and an inclined portion at the inner end to pull the knob a<1> with a washer k tight up against the end b<1> of the outer tube in the closed position. The tap may, in a modification, be operated by a removable handle in the form of a key m, Fig. 12, which is inserted through a slot n, Fig. 10, in a front cover plate o and then turned to engage behind the cover plate for the longitudinal movement, and against lateral stops for the rotary movements.
