Abstract

Telescopic hollow handles. -- The telescopic handle of a spade for military purposes comprises a lower part formed of two concentric tubes, and an upper part with a pin engaging a slot in the inner tube of the lower part. and a pivoted spring catch for retaining the parts in extended position. As shown, the lower part b which is fixed to the spade blade a is formed of two concentric tubes c, d with a space between them and connected at the upper end by a brazed ring e. The upper part f which carries the hand-grip g slides in the inner tube d and has a screw pin m moving in a slot n which prevents it from being drawn out completely. This pin m may be inserted through an opening at o in the outer tube c, this opening being subsequently closed bv a brazed-in disk or plate. A spring pawl h is pivoted at k in the tube f, a reinforcing sleeve preferably being provided. A spring l fixed in a notch in the pawl presses the pawl out through an opening i into engagement with the end of the part b, to retain the handle extended, as shown in Fig. 2. until the pawl is pressed in by hand.
