Universal joints.-A symmetrical coupling for electric locomotives &c., allowing tilting, axial, and lateral movements of the coupled shafts and providing a free central space for their passage, comprises pins projecting from one member and connected, by means permitting two degrees of freedom, to a lever system pivoted onpins projecting symmetrically from the other member. As shown, ball-headed pins f on the track-wheel h engage blocks i axially slidable in blocks k, which can slide radially in guide frames m. Rigid extensions n of the frames m arepivoted to extensions g of four toothed sectors z, which engage each other in pairs and are pivoted on pins d on a toothed driving-wheel c mounted on the quill-shaft b. The Specification as open to inspection under- Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a statement that the pins f may be replaced by universal joints and the parts k, na, n by pivoted levers. Thissubject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
