Abstract
267,090. Davidson Manufacturing Co., (Assignees of Davidson, W. W.). March 3, 1926, [Convention date]. Folding paper.-In a paperfolding machine in which the folding devices are arranged parallel to one another, means associated with and rendered operative by the conveying-devices are provided between pairs of of folders for turning the sheet through an angle so that the fold given by the second folder is at an angle to the preceding fold. As applied to a reciprocating- blade folder, the sheet is fed from one folder A, Fig. 2, to the next B, by means of two sets of endless tapes 2, 4 coupled together by a belt 6, Fig. 1, and driven by a belt passing over a pulley 5, the second set 4 being inclined slightly to the first set 2. The guiderollers 1, 3 of the tapes 2, 4 are mounted in a rectangular frame 26, 34, to which is fixed near the forward end of the tapes 2 a transverse rod 14. A tape-supporting plate 11 is adjustably mounted on the rod 14 by means of a boss 13 and set-screw 15 and mounted above the plate 11 so as to bear on the sheet is a ball 9 freely carried in a bracket 10 adjustably-mounted on a rod 24 secured frictionally to the members 26 of the supporting frame 26, 34 by clips 25. To one side of the ball 9 a vertically-projecting stud 16, Fig. 4, screws into a boss 17 and engages a flat 21 on the bar 14, and a sheet fed by the tapes 2 abuts at one end against the stud 16 and is turned through a right-angle, the ball 9 serving to keep the sheet in contact with the tapes and ensuring its being fed. The inclined tapes 4 register the sheet against a side gauge 27 adjustably attached to a bar 28, similar to the bar 24, by brackets 29 and set-screws 30, the sheet then proceeding to the next folder B. The direction in which the sheet is turned can be reversed by moving the stud 16 to the opposite side of the ball 9, and a separate boss 17 may be used for this purpose. The underside 23 of the head 22 of the stud 16 is inclined so as to prevent the sheet slipping over and ensure its engagement with the stud. By unscrewing and removing the stud, the fold imparted by the device B becomes a parallel fold. The frame 26, 34 carrying the turning-devices is detachably secured to pillars 35 forming part of the machine framing.
