Purifiers.-Finely divided purifying material is allowed to fall freely by gravity through a stream of gas ascending with decreasing velocity. Illuminating gas is admitted to the smaller, lower end of a Venturi-shaped chamber 1 and finely divided hydrated iron oxide is introduced at the upper end by means of a feed screw 10 and a jet 11 supplied with purified gas. Fouled material removed by a screw 14 may be revivified and returned to the top of the chamber, or additional material may be continuously supplied.
