Boosting by transformers; systems depending on static transformers.-A drum or like controller for varying voltage in an alternating current service is operated by a pilot motor M which is set in action by forward and reversing pushbutton switches 9, 12. Successive steps of the controller switch in relays 1, 2, 3 connected to taps of a boosting transformer not shown. The controller is arranged to have an intermittent movement with a pause after each step. If the voltage fails a relay 10 renders the controller inoperative and makes connections ensuring the subsequent return of the controller to the position of normal voltage or minimum boost.
