Abstract

241,662. English Electric Co., Ltd., and Bremner, F. D. H. Aug. 26, 1924. Controllers with no-volt release: master control systems.-In an electric motor control system, in which a master switch 8 effects circuit conditions to cause an auxiliary electric or pneumatic motor to drive a secondary switch 7, the movement of which cancels the said circuit conditions, a novolt relay coil 3 is provided in the main motor circuit or in shunt to a part thereof so as to be traversed by a current proportional to the motor current. Movement of the switch 8 to its first position completes a circuit through a hand reversing switch 13, a reverse 14, line breaker coils 4, segment 15 of switch 7 to earth, the line breakers close thereupon completing the main motor circuit through relay 3, which closes its switches 1, 2, and the line breakers move associated contacts 5, 6 to complete a shunt circuit for their coils 4 to earth. Associated contact 12 completes the circuit of a relay 16 to earth through switch 2 and segment 21 on switch 7. Armature 20 is thereby attracted and completes the circuit of the auxiliary motor so that notching-up can start. Upon voltage failure in the main motor circuit, switches 1, 2 open, interrupting the circuit of coils 4 so that the line breakers open and associated contacts drop. Circuit of relay 16 is now completed through contact 18 and segment 19 and the auxiliary motor returns switch 7 to its initial positon, whereupon the coils 4 areagain energized and the line breakers close, but the circuit of the coil 16 is still open at the switch 2, so that notching-up cannot start until the main motor current again flows and the relay 3 is energized.
