Abstract

244,230. Peter, L. H., and Westing- house Brake & Saxby Signal Co., Ltd. Oct. 27, 1924. Electric operation and control.-To obtain by means of a low-voltage source the necessary higher voltage for electrically operating points, a motor-generator set is provided, the motor element being automatically connected to the low-voltage source, such as the battery usually provided at a signal cabin, when operating current is actually required. A switch 7 operated by the catch-handle of the point-operating lever closes the circuit of a relay 5 energized from a low-voltage battery 3. The relay contacts 4 then connect the motor M to the battery 3 and the generator G is actuated. High-voltage current from the generator passes through one or other of two pairs of contacts 9, 10 operated by the point lever, to a polarized relay 12, the contacts 9, 10 being arranged so that the current supplied is reversed by moving the lever from one extreme position to the other. Current also passes, in parallel with relay 12, over the field windings 14 of the point-operating motor, one or other of two cut-out switches 18 opened to break circuit when he points are fully set, one or other of two contacts 16, 17 of relay 12, armature 15 of the pointoperating motor, and the other contact 16 or 17. Contacts 16, 17 serve to reverse the connections of the point-operating motor so that the motor operates to move the points in a direction corresponding with the movement of the operating lever. Circuit is broken at contact 4 by release of a catch-handle after completion of the lever movement.
