Abstract

236,640. Peter, B. H., Peter, L. H., and Westinghouse Brake & Saxby Signal Co., Ltd. April 8, 1924. Electric operation and control.-Railway points are operated electrically by current supplied by a single pair of conductors from a. source of energy adjacent to the point of contact, the supply of current being controlled by contacts on the points lever and by a relay located near the lever or near the points. The source of energy may be a hand- or foot-operated generator as described in Specification 220,151, [Class 105, Railway engines &c.]. Several forms of points-operating apparatus are described. In that shown, contacts 25 - - 28 are opened and closed in pairs by reversal of the hand-lever and reverse the connection of the generator 5 to the line wires and a polarized relay 29, the armatures of which control the motor 24 which drives the points. Indicators or locking devices operated by electromagnets 52, 54 are energized either from the line wires 19, 20 or from batteries at the points over contacts controlled by the points. In a modification, only one indication line-wire is used. Contacts operated by the hand-lever may be included in the indication circuits. If alternating current is used for operating the points, the relays may have two windings, one of which is supplied through the hand-lever contacts and the other from an independent source.
