Abstract

223,343. Crompton & Co., Ltd., and Jones, W. F. Aug. 3, 1923. Electromagnetic switches. - Automatic relays as used in battery charging are reset by external means with the object of getting a strong resetting stroke instead of a stroke depending on fluctuation of voltage in the relay coils. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 4, a low voltage relay R and a high voltage relay S controlling the charging of a battery 0 from a dynamo N are reset by the closure of an external electromagnetic switch T which short-circuits the high voltage coil and simultaneously strengthens the current through the low voltage coil. The closure of the switch T is brought about by moving a starting switch V on to a contact X, this action being a necessary preliminary to the starting or restarting of the charging plant. In another arrangement according to the invention a low voltage relay R and a high voltage relay S, Fig. 8, have their armatures B, B restored to the reset positions by a mechanical impulse from a sliding bar EE which is itself actuated by the movement of a starting switch FF.
