Feb. 13, 1926, [Convention Medicines for internal use. - An adsorption agent such as animal carbon or Fuller's earth is added to an extract of Adonis vernalis possibly after it has been treated in the usual manner with lead acetate or similar agent and the adsorbent removed from the liquid and dried. On extracting it with a solvent, a concentrated solution of the glucoside is obtained. In an example, an aqueous extract of Herba adonis vernalis is tieated with animal charcoal and the glucoside separated from the dried charcoal by means of hot chloroform. The solution is distilled to remove chloroform, when a thick brown oil is obtained which is shaken with ether and water. whereby the glucoside dissolves in the water and the fats and waxes in the ether. The aqueous solution is further washed twice with ether. The Herba adonis vernalis is extracted with 40 per cent alcohol in a second example, the alcohol distilled off and the aqueous solution treated with lead acetate. The glucoside is adsorbed in animal charcoal and a chloroform solution obtained as before, which on pouring into petrol-ether gives a thick oil. By extracting this with water and drying the solution thus obtained in vacuo, the purified adonidin is obtained as a slightly brown coloured powder.
