Abstract
299,357. Riebeck'sche Montanwerke Akt.-Ges., A. Oct. 24, 1057, [Convention date]. Wares, purifying.-The process of refining waxes by adsorbents while the wax is in solution is applied to the refining of carnauba and candelila waxes. In an example, a solution of 50 lb. of carnauba wax in 400 lb. of ethyl acetate is gently boiled and stirred with 1.25 lb. of " Carboraffin " for about an hour. The mixture is filtered or centrifuged to separate the carbon; the solvent is then distilled off. The decolorizing agent is freed from retained wax by solvents, and regenerated by heating to incandescence in a current of carbon dioxide or in other known manner. The carbon may also be added in stages, preferably on the counter-current principle. Solvents specified are methyl alcohol and its homologues, their esters and ethers, esters and ethers of glycol or other polyhydric alcohol, and butanone or other ketone. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) describes the treatment of like vegetable waxes. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
