Abstract

265,887. Handley, G. F., and Royal Typewriter Co., Inc. Oct. 18, 1926. Ink-ribbon mechanism. - In a typewriting- machine, each ribbon spool housing 1, Fig. 2, carries a pivoted member 6 for preventing accidental displacement of the spool 2 during transport or use of the machine, the member being pivoted below the housing, preferably on a bracket 4, and projecting into the housing. The member is preferably held in position by a a spring 9, and the end 7 of the member is rounded so that on detaching the spool the member is cammed outwards by the lower flange of the spool. In portable machines employing housings of light construction secured to brackets, 13, Fig. 3, on the framework, each housing is provided with a tie-plate 16 for resisting strain on the housing when the spool is removed therefrom, the tie-plate being secured for instance by screws 17, 18, to the housing and the mask H which encloses the framework of the machine.
