Abstract

542,373. Typewriters. ROYAL TYPEWRITER CO., Inc. Nov. 3, 1939, No. 8069/41. Convention date, Nov. 12, 1938. Divided out of 536,584. [Class 100 (iv)] Margin stops.-An adjustable stop, mounted on a bar on the framework' and urged towards a stop on the carriage by resilient means, is provided with a spring- urged latch which co-operates with teeth on a vertical face of the bar and is releasable by means of a manually operated bail pivoted, below the latch, on the framework and provided with a vertical bar for engaging the latch. In the construction shown in the Figure, margin stops Q, T are mounted on a bar R on the framework L and are provided with spring-urged latches 117, 138 which co-operate with teeth on the front faces of racks S, U on the framework. Bails 125, 145, pivoted on the framework below the latches, are operated by finger-pieces 135, 152 and are provided with vertical bars which co-operate with rollers 124, 144 on the latches. The stops Q, T are formed with lugs 105, 107 for engaging counterstops 104, 106 on the carriage M, the counterstop 104 being formed on a release-lever 103. The stops Q, T are urged towards the counterstops by a long spring V which passes over pulleys 110, 113. Alternatively, the band of a spring-drum on the framework is connected to the stop T and passes around a pulley on the stop Q. The rack U can rock about the bar R to operate alarm and line-lock devices.
