In a rotary cutter for severing cigarette or tobacco rods in cigarette machines, the knife blade g is clamped between vice members b, d secured to one another by a hinge or hinges c. As shown, the member b is fixed on the shaft a and the hinged member d is faced at the end e with rubber f for engagement with the blade g. Clamping is effected by an eccentric h adjusted bv a handle in and bearing against the end n of the member d. In order to prevent the blade g from dropping out when the clamping pressure is released, a flange p on the blade is provided and can be inserted in a slit q in the member d. In a modification, the member d is pivoted to the member b at one side and is secured at the other side by a pivoted bolt and nuts.
