Abstract
1,072,961. Cutting tobacco. AMF INTERNATIONAL Ltd. April 1, 1964 [April 3, 1963], No. 13247/63. Heading A4C. In a tobacco cutting machine, of the type wherein tobacco is fed through a mouthpiece 11 to be cut by knives mounted on a rotary cutter 2, the spacing of the cutter from the mouthpiece 11 is selectively determined by abutment of a setting plate 14 on the casing 6 of the cutter 2 with a multi-sided setting block 16 mounted for rotation about a fixed axis in relation to the mouthpiece 11, the flat abutment sides of the setting block 16 being at different perpendicular distances from the axis of rotation of the block 16. The locations of the plate 14 and block 16 may be reversed. The block 16 after being rotated to give the desired knife spacing is locked by a pin passing through an aperture 22 therein and engaging a socket in the machine framing. The casing 6 is pivotally attached, as at 12, to the main frame 10 to facilitate adjustment of the block 16 and means is provided to lock the casing 6 in its operative position adjacent the mouthpiece.
