642,140. Cutting sheet material. BATTERSBY, J. E., and MASSON SCOTT & CO., Ltd. Aug. 15, 1947, No. 22763. [Class 31 (i)] In a rotary cutter comprising a cutter blade 4 secured to a drum or other rotary support 2 so that the rear edge of the blade is seated against a shoulder or abutment surface 6 of the drum, blade-mounting bolts 12 passing through enlarged holes 13 in the blade are provided with a cam or eccentric portion 22 so that by rotating the bolt to bring the cam portion into engagement with the side of the hole 13 the blade can be displaced into contact with and thus properly bedded against the shoulder 6. The bolts 12 pass through holes 14 in an overhung portion 9 of the drum (see Fig. 1) and are secured by nuts 11. Screws or studs 15 bear against a relieved part 18 of the blade and permit adjustment of the blade relative to a fixed blade B with which the blade 4 co-operates to cut paper, card and the like. The abutment surface 6 forms part of a helical recess 3 in the outer face of a hollow cylindrical drum and in this recess the blade is secured. The holes 13 are elongated in the length of the blade and preferably have short straight sides and semicircular ends (Fig. 4, not shown).
