Thread-guides. - In the spinning of artificial silk &c., continuance of the spinning operation during the times the collecting devices are being changed is ensured by entraining the filaments in a current of liquid directed along their path and which is brought into operation only at these times. The supply of liquid may be automatically controlled by the movements of the parts necessary to the removal of a completed thread-package. As applied to a centrifugal spinning machine, the funnel 20, which serves to lead the threads into the centrifugal box 11, is supported by means of a distorted parallel-motion link mechanism comprising the parts 12, 15, 16, 17 as described in Specification 263,239, and associated therewith is a liquid-supply pipe 30 fitted with a cock 14 actuated by the links 16 and constituting a pivot of the link system. For normal operation the funnel occupies the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1, and the cock is closed; when, however, a box has to be changed, the funnel is lifted to its raised position, so bringing its upper end below the mouth of the pipe 30, while its lower end owing to the tilting movement produced by the distorted proportions of the articulated frame, is directed towards a trough 23 or a waste-collecting roller; at the same time the cock 14 is opened, thereupon a jet of liquid is projected from the end of the tube 30 into the funnel, carrying with it the thread and so maintaining a pull thereon necessary to ensure continuance of spinning.
