Receivers utilizing point discharge effects.-In sound emitting devices or loud-speakers, sound is produced by the action of an electrostatic point discharge from a non-vibratory electrode, under the influence of a varying discharge potential. A pair of electrodes are preferably employed, one being pointed whilst the other may be in the form of a metal plate separated from the points of the first electrode by about 2 to 3 mm. The discharger is preferably open to the atmosphere. The discharging terminals are preferably fed with a voltage above the critical discharge voltage, the oscillating voltage corresponding to the sound to be emitted being also imposed on these terminals.
