Receivers utilizing point discharge effects. - In order to avoid the production of an arc discharge in an electric sound emitting device or loud-speaker of the kind described in the parent Specification in which a fluctuating voltage is superimposed on a direct current voltage which maintains an electrostatic point discharge from a non-vibratory electrode placed close to a counter electrode, a dielectric possessing a high ohmic resistance, such as mica or preferably presspahn or presspahn and air, is provided between the electrodes. According to an alternative, the fundarr.ental voltage is a high frequency alternating voltage which produces air vibrations outside the range of audible frequencies. According to further features of the invention, the electrodes used preferably consist of two metal discs of which one is studded with a large number of spikes of a predetermined length and separated a given distance from one another. The spikes are preferably partly embedded in insulating material and this is effected, according to one construction, by using a disc made of insulating material in which the electrically connected spikes are mounted.
