In the high voltage testing of insulating material between electrodes 1 and 9, electrode 1 is discshaped and is located by a stem 8 in the mouth 6 of a cavity in an insulating block which has an internal metallised coating so shaped as to produce a uniform field free from edge effects at the electrode and is connected to the electrode. The block is in two parts 3, 4. Specification 822,203 is referred to.
