Abstract

360,517. Microphones for deaf persons. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. Aug. 16, 1930, No. 24599. Convention date, Aug. 17, 1929. [Class 40 (iv).] A carbon granular microphone for the d e a f comprises two or more separate rear r electrodes, preferably connected in series, and a common rectangular diaphragm vibrating freely as a single diaphragm and forming or carrying the front electrode. As shown, a rectangular casing 1 contains two carbon electrodes 2, 3 having depressions 4, 5 containing carbon granules 6. A carbon diaphragm 8 is glued to the turned up edge 7 of the casing which is closed by a perforated cover 9 thicker in the centre than at the edges. If desired, the diaphragm may be of nonconducting material and provided with a carbon coating or have a thin strip of carbon stuck thereon and each of the depressions 4, 5 is preferably filled with grains of different kinds or sizes. Two contact pins 10, one of which is shown in the Figure, are arranged on the narrow side of the casing and electrically connected with the electrodes, the back of the casing being provided with a clip 11 for attachment to the clothing. When make-andbreak switches are provided, these are inserted within the casing 1 so that only the operating knobs project therefrom.
