Abstract
264,738. Rowell, H. S. July 24, 1926. Testing balance of rotary apparatus.-Relates to apparatus for static balancing of the kind in which the carrier tilts about a single suspension device, and consists in supporting the body to be balanced with its axis horizontal in a V-block combined with a single suspension device. In one form, the hardened edge 3 of the V-block 2 forms the knife edge, which rests on a removable hardened face 5 of a column 4. Bent rods 6, 7 carry counterpoises 8, 9, and have extending from them horizontally arms 10, 11 carrying weights 12, 14, the arm 11 being graduated. A pointer 36 moves over a scale 37. In a modification, the V-block is supported in an inverted V-shaped piece, the lower edges of which are flanged to engage over the V-block, such piece being suspended by a flexible strip from a stationary support.
