Abstract
272,405. Rowell, H. S. July 24, 1926. Testing balance of rotary apparatus.-Relates to static apparatus in which the carrier has a single supension about which it is adapted to tilt and comprises a carrier constituted by spaced side members 16 connected by a cross member 18 engaged by or carrying the single suspension, and each side member is provided with a V-block 20 which is adjustable towards or away from the suspension. In one form the suspension takes the form of a knife edge member 19 of rectangular cross-section provided with a hole through which passes the member 18. The distance apart of the members 16 may be varied either by using longer or shorter members 18 or by arranging that the member 18 slides through the brackets 17. The V-blocks may be mounted so as to be moved nearer or further away from the knifeedge. The rods 16 are graduated and carry jockey weights 22 which may be combined to move as one. A counterpoise is mounted on a rod 210 above the knife-edge which rests on the hardened top plate of a pedestal 4. A pointer 36 moves over a scale 37. In a modification, instead of using a knife-edge, the rod 18 is suspended from the pedestal by means of a metal strip attached to a spindle carried by the pedestal and to the rod 18.
