Abstract

302,673. Wollaston, H. J. Buchanan-. Sept. 14, 1927. Balances; pendulum-weight apparatus.-The equi-arm beam 1, Fig. 1, of a balance is supported by one or more flexible bands, cords, chains or fibres 2 that are attached to the beam and engage a curved surface 3 thereon. The weigh-pans are supported by bands or like flexible members 6, 7 from rods or tubes 4, 5 equally spaced from, and having the same curvature as, the surface 3. The beam is balanced about the suspension 2 at all used angles by a weight 8 suspended from the surface of a sleeve 10 co-axial with the surface 3. As shown in Fig. 2, the invention is applied to a balance in which the weigh-pans 14, 15 are disposed above the beam 1<a>, and the pan legs 12, 13 are connected for parallel movement to a second beam 1<b> disposed below the main beam. The balance is provided with a pendulous weighing-resistant 21 suspended from a downward projection 18 of the lower beam. The weights 8, 21 depend into an oil-bath 22 to damp the vib-rations of the beams. In order to eliminate out of level errors the indicator chart may be suspended from the main support 16 in a similar manner to the beams.
