Abstract

264,238. Booer, J. R., Britten, W. R. J., and District Chemical Co., Ltd. Oct. 15, 1925. Fluxes.-Fluxes for use in the autogenous welding of aluminium, magnesium &c. are prepared by mixing and fusing together alkali and alkaline earth halides in simple multiples of molecular proportions so as to form chemical combinations. An activating agent, e.g. potassium fluoride, may be added in such proportions that it is incorporated in the state of solid solution in the flux referred to above. In an example, flux has the formula, 2BaCl2, 3KCl, 3NaCl.LiCl and the ingredients being in the following proportions :-52.5 per cent of barium chloride, 24 per cent of potassium chloride 18.9 per cent of sodium chloride and 4.6 per cent of lithium chloride. Specification 170,343 is referred to.
