Abstract

Handles, attaching.-A handle assembly comprises a hollow bushing rotatably but permanently mounted in a nut by which it is screwed to the lock casing, a handle integral with or castunited with the bushing, and a spindle-receiving plug having a serrated head engaging internal serrations in the bushing. The bushing 5 has a part 8 which is spun over a shoulder in the nut 3. The handle 9 is cast on to the other end of the bushing, cross-slots 7 being provided in the bushing to allow a quick flow of the metal. During the casting of the handle, a plug is inserted into the bushing to produce the serrations 6, the plug extending into the molten metal so that when the plug 4 for engaging the spindle is fitted its serrated head 13 engages both bushing and handle. The nut 3 screws into a threaded collar 2 secured to the lock or the like 1. The end of the nut has teeth 11 engaging on a spring washer 12 to maintain the handle assembly in position when screwed on to the collar. The nut 3 may be shouldered to clamp down a nose plate 14.
